How to write a saleable story (or not to)

DISCLAIMER: This article is written in jest and should not be taken seriously. In the event of someone actually using this method to write a story, please give me some credit (at least say I was SOME inspiration).

P.S. I am not saying in any way it is easy to write a story, this is just a method to do so.

In order for you to have write a good short story, you should follow the KEEL System as it allows you to check yourself. For non-fantasy novels, you can use the EEK! system (ignore L)

Language

If your writing in the fantasy or Sci-fiction, your aliens/ various species (goblin, fairy, etc) must have a unique language which the readers must understand but the characters must not.

Examples:
Wrong 1:
Gimme the Dworf: {My Name in Gimme the Dworf, I come from the mystical land of Garbok. I wish to join you on your quest. }
Pokachu : OK!
Why wrong? 1. This shows no imagination at all. Just brackets? Very bad.
2. Your story characters can reading just by looking at the text.
3. No personalisation. What if you have more than 2 Mystic Languages? Different brackets?
Wrong 2:
Gimme the Dworf: "Ah tak Geewar Gimme Sef Dorf! Gefi mika dek'wah Garbok. Gefi Noew fow gena"
Pokachu: !!???!???!??
Why wrong? 1. No one can read or understand it.
2. Only characters who speak it in the book understand it.

Right
Gimme the Dworf: "Mun Neim as Geeemee Da Dvorf! Ah Cune frun Da Mist-ic-al Lund of Gear Bork. Ah Vuish tuh June You Un Yar Qvest."
Pokachu: !!???!???!??
Why right? 1. The reader can understand it but the characters can't.
2. It sounds original and credits you with imagination.

So remember your fantasy Vocab!
"Suh Rahmenbar you Funtazery Voocub!"

Elaborate

A story needs to be relatively long, so you must elaborate. Put in Excruciating pains into finding long, long words that no one will actually bother to read or understand just to make it longer. Keeping a dictionary on hand would help too.

Example:

Wrong: “Thanks for the tea, Mary, see you around.”

Right: “I bid thee farewell, fair maiden, and I wish to express my most solemn and sincere gratitude and gratefulness for the dried and prepared leaves which thou has made into so wonderful a beverage. Now, I must take my leave. “

Most paragraphs should be able to be converted into a single sentence. This is an important technique and should be studied well.

Encounter

Your characters must find something to talk about or find in order for them to be distracted. While their distracted, something will happen to one of the characters, giving you a situation to write about.

Example:

Wrong: The two dwarfs guides working in harmony to aid their client over the mountain. They pointed out the dangers of the mountain, which included unsteady rocks and dangerous animals. They were quiet going up the hill and hid their food in special containers. They also told him about rumors of a mysterious being who abducted people. Armed with this knowledge, they set off and reached their destination without a hitch.

Right: The two dwarf guides gazed at each other in contempt, silently cursing the other for stealing “his” business of guiding people over the mountain. They bickered as they started to climb up the mountain and their loud noises started an avalanche. While no one was hurt, their supplies were crushed and they had to return to the village to start again. The following day, they set out again, and remained silent, though they still shot daggers out of their eyes at each other. They made it halfway up the mountain and made camp. In the middle of the night, due to the dwarves carelessness, all their supplies were eaten by ravenous wild animals. In the Morn, their client, now very frustrated at them, decided to press on and get over the mountain before anything happened. They continued and made camp on the opposite side of the mountain the following night. Their hunger pangs kept them awake, but since they were at the top of the mountain, they bickered noisily. As they were doing so, they did not notice a silent shadow glide smoothly to their client and drag him away, nor his muffled screams for help…….Rescue…..

So remember, always have an encounter to write about.

Kids

In order for you to be able to open up to many audiences to read, you have to “Kiddy-ize” your story, and remove bits of gore and violence that will induce negative images in fragile, uncorrupted children’ minds.

Example:

Wrong: The trooper heard a noise behind him in the forest. He turned and saw two hideous aliens, with claws dripping with blood from two recently killed civilians. Brandishing his Assault rifle, he fired off two rounds of ammunition, and the aliens died in a short burst of blood. Then five seemed to more appear out of nowhere, and he ran and used a grenade to blast them into smoldering pieces of organic matter. (GORE)

Right: The magical wizard of FunFunLand heard something behind him. It was two horrible beasts! He took out two cream pies and flung it at them. Blinded by the luscious cream, the two beasts blundered away confused. Suddenly, five more appeared in thin air and he was forced to use his magic potion to turn them into white fluffy bunnies. (NO GORE)

This will open your book up to all members of a typical family, boosting your sales.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this educational article.

Power Breathing Exercise

Hi there! If your new, you may want to see {Intro to Me}
Anyway, this exercise similar to the Full body relaxation exercise, This is meant to calm people down and reduce stress levels. After all, people start to irrational when their angry, frustrated or stressed out. It's also meant to energize you a little. But by all means, do not stop eating or drinking because your think that it will give you energy you need.

A bit of philosophy first. Everything has energy, correct? A rock in a high place has Gravational energy, as does a stream flowing down a river. Fire gives out energy as well. Did you think about what fuels fire? Air. So obviously, if you didn't know this before, air has energy as well. So we are going to 'draw' the energy out of air to energize us and relax us.

Right, first, find a comfortable position. Unlike the Full body relax exercise, you do not have to lie down or recline, as long as your in a good position. Don't slouch, position yourself in a manner you will be comfortable in. Don't cross your legs, especially if your going to be breathing for a while. Your eyes can be open or closed. Closed is better though.

Now, breathe deeply in through your nose. As you do so, Visualise the energy in the air. ( You do not have to visualise the surrounding air, only when and as it comes into your body) Visualise the energy flowing down to your chest and stomach. It can be any bright color. I use white visualisations. This represents 'clean' energy, and your body will accept this visualisation more easily. Exhale through your mouth. Now see the Energy spreading out through your Arms and legs, to your toes and fingers.

Breathe in again. Now see yellowish, brown or black energy flowing from your fingertips and toes to your center, your chest and stomach. This
represents the old, used up energy. On the out Breath, Notice it traveling up your body, to your mouth, and out of the body. Repeat the exercise until you feel satisfied.

This exercise can be done in conjunction with the full body exercise, after you have finished the individual part relaxation.

What Happens?
OK, to be perfectly honest, I don't know the whole physics of this exercise. However, When you breathe deeply and relax, you help to regulate the heartbeat, and you will most likely feel more peaceful. The visualisations help to trick the body into feeling more refreshed to the point that you actually are refreshed.

Anyway, thanks for reading so far.

Full Body Relaxation exercise

Hello! If your new to the site, please read the {Intro to Me}
In any case, do you sometimes feel tired, and your want to rest well, but without dozing off? Or do you occasionally have trouble falling asleep, in the night, or for a nap? Either way, this exercise would be good for you. It also loosens up the muscles and helps you feel relaxed (well, from the title, it should)

First, you have to find a place to lie down or recline comfortably. I prefer to lie flat on the bed, but others may be able to go it reclining in a chair. Above all else, don't cross your legs. It becomes uncomfortable with poor circulation if your planning to stay in this state for a while.

Now, close your eyes (Helps with visualisation). You can do the head-to-toe or feet-to-top way, it doesn't really matter. I'll be refering to the Head-to-toe method. Start by telling your brain; I am feeling more and more relaxed. Just settle into this state of basic relaxation first.

Once your comfortable, say mentally: My eyes are feelings more and more relaxed. Repeat this over and over. At the same time, Visualise and feel your eyes relaxing. I visualise an eyeball with veins (stressed) becoming a normal eyeball. Once it's settled, move on to your nose. Similar words: My nose/nostrils are becoming more and more relaxed... For here I use a vision of a my nose rapidly breathing, than gradually becoming normal. Different people can use different visualisations; Extreme to normal, or Normal to Slow/Relaxed. From here you just repeat it with every body part... mouth, cheeks, ears, neck, chest, Left upper arm, lower arm, hand, each finger, (same with other side), then your stomach, your groin area, your left thigh, your leg, your feet , your other thigh, your leg, you feet....

The Most important thing is for you to be conscious of the part you are relaxing. (Think the {Part}, feel the {Part}) Feel it becoming more relaxed. Know that if you fall asleep, you would get better sleep than you normally do and feel better refreshed when you get up. That applies to at least your naps, if not your normal sleep as well. If your trying to stay awake, just don't let your mind drift while your in this state, and shake yourself (mentally and physically) out of it when you want to get back to your tasks. I would not recommended Staying awake in this state unless you have experienced doing it, so practice, practice and more practice.

I hope this helps many people out that relax better.
(Can be done in Conjunction with Power Breathing)

Thanks for your attention,
Homin

How to Create And Maintain your own Casual Journal

How to create maintain your own Journal.by Homin
Personally, to this date, i have written and filled up 4 Journals, and am working on the fifth. I find them a very good way to keep your memories, and a good read (Looking back at your younger self). You really never know, with today's hectic pace, we may remember an incident today, and forget all about it tomorrow when we get up.

The What
OK, now unless you are a young kid, or a foreigner still learning English, I would call you a complete idiot for not knowing what is a Journal. Anyway, a Journal is by definition,
A
: a record of current transactions; especially : a book of original entry in double-entry bookkeeping
B
: an account of day-to-day events
C: a record of experiences, ideas, or reflections kept regularly for private use
D
: a record of transactions kept by a deliberative or legislative body
The Journal I am referring to is the definitions B and C, on how to regularly maintain your book which contains your private input.

The Why

Now, personally, I like writing my own journal,as in, keeping records of what interesting things I've done, heard, seen and smelt. I find that in doing so, I can recall interesting points in my life just by looking at what I've Written. Also, by keeping watch of interesting things that for you to record in your Journal, you tend to become more attentive, as you may notice things while attentive that you would normally miss in a dreary state of mind. As above mentioned, it would also make a good read in the future.

The When and Where
Now, you may wonder, I am way too busy, with minimal spare time on my hands already, so how could I put in effort in maintaining a Journal? But then, you would be overestimating the time it requires to create a journal. To write in a personal Journal requires a only a small amount of your time, perhaps at maximum , maximum, 30 min to record a day's worth of activities. I only spend that long when i record my holiday experiences, so for interesting activities that happen once in a while at places like work or school, it shouldn't take so long. Trust me, this small effort in the present will help you recall and maybe even relive good memories, and perhaps laugh at the bad ones.

The Who
This may sound silly, but you should only let yourself and close family members , and i mean close, read your journal. Some people may feel inhibitions about writing a journal if they feel that anyone may read it, and they will be subject to other's judgement, and thus will not add in their SINCERE thoughts and feelings. Keep it private when your starting out, unless your completely happy with others glimpsing your mind.

The How
Right, now down to business.
The first thing that you have to do, is to get a book. It can be an ordinary A5
exercise book, or it can be a colorful personalised book ordered online from some exotic bookstore. It does not matter, as long as it suits you. I myself do not use ordinary exercise books, but neither do i have customised ones either, just those i get from Popular. If you are really budget conscious, then you can use an online/Digital journal, but i find they have a tendency to get corrupted by an accidental computer breakdown or something of the sort.

Next, the one step I've seen many forget, is the date and day (e.g. Friday 30/5/03). Honestly, if you look back at your experiences, especially when you have as many Journals as me, you would most likely want to read them in chronological order, and you may also wish to know how long ago you experienced the incident.

Write down the experience, describe in detail if you want to, or just jot down quick notes of what happened. This is completely up to you. However, you should remember that this is for your own reference, and the extra tiny details you add in will be important.

Express yourself! Add exclamation marks, dots,....,whatever makes you feel like your putting yourself into the book.

Now, be completely honest with yourself. What did you feel when you went through this incident in question? Did you feel embarassed? Elation? Sadness? Even Fatigue? Anger? You should pen down your feelings, so that looking back, you will be able to easily relate with yourself and your personality.

Finally, write down your thoughts. This can be mixed with your feelings, and about how you felt about this incident. I also finish of a journal entry by adding in a farewell like : "Goodnite!" Cya next time" or even just "GN!". Your must realise that when you look back at yourself, that final signing off is quite important in adding in color and expression to your words.

Thank you once again for kind attention

Good Freeware games and my reviews

Hello! Everyone likes free stuff right? As mentioned, I like playing computer games, especially if their free. :) There are many hidden jems out there freely available, tucked away in nooks and cranny's of the web. However, not all free computer games are actually good. This is my experience of some of them. Notes: First off, None of them are NC 16 or M18 or anything like that. Blood is not seen in most of these games.(except remission, you see red blood cells :p)
Second, Freeware Japanese games rock. You should play action games though, or you have no idea what their saying.

PS: If you are thinking of getting free games from Zango, forget it. They 'only' install the game you want to play, and while they have great games, they appear to install Adware into your PC as well. I would advise against it, but if you really want to play their games (which are not so bad) i recommend preparing Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware software. If not, just avoid Zango.

Re-Mission
This is a 3D-game based on killing germs and bacteria. Not only is it informative,*gives names of dieseases, germs, body organs...* it can actually rival the level of some of the paid games that we find for sale nowadays. The catch? It has a large size (2GB). The game is made by Hopelab, a charity organisation who will send you a DVD/CD copy of the game for free, no postage or anything. If you can, you should also make a Donation on their site, for raising Cancer awareness and giving this great game for free to the Public.

Liero-Ai
This is a very simple copy of the game Liero, except that it can work on windows XP and possibly Vista?. This game is very fun if you have two humans players to play, however, contrary to the name, the AI Stinks. As in, they will just spam their weapons and when they run out of ammo, they will switch weapons then spam again. So, if you give them a grenade weapon,.... Suicide. Still, its very fun if you have two humans playing.

The Spirit Engine
A Brilliant freeware RPG game. This game has wonderful music, a unique battle system, and a lot of variety. When you begin the game, you get to choose 3 out of 9 characters, each with a different class and speciality/weakness. There are five different worlds, each with their own challenges. The manual is also nicely done,Titled the spirit engine Compedium, with ingame screens and info.
Many multitudes of words cannot describe this game's awesomeness (is that a word?). But even if your not a fan of RPG games, due to the fact that you have to 'Train your character', also known as grinding, you should at least check out TSE's soundtrack, which is offered for free on the Natomic Site.

Ice Wars (Digipen.edu Gallery 2003-2004)
This game is similar to worms, yet not so. You play in a turn based fashion, where you assign moves to your penguins, seals or walruses and predict where your enemy is going to move , and STRIKE! Then, your opponent (computer or otherwise) Assigns his or her moves, and then you press the start button. Both sides will simultaneously act out their orders, which makes proper planning key and adds real strategy factor. It can also lead to hilarious situations where your shots don't always go where you want them to.

Little Fighter 2
Now this is a very interesting game. You play as a character in a 3D like world, where you can move up or down, left or right, or jump and such. You can 'block' by shifting up a bit to make the enemy miss! The vast variety of characters, with hidden characters and armor types and items, make this game a worthwhile download for it's size. The story mode in itself is very well done, but with VS mode, and Battle mode (A special type of VS mode where you have armies) and other types of modes, it is an Excellent download. In addition, due to it's popularity, there are many modifications which give it added playability, Such as the good mod, R-LF2. If anyone has that mod,(unfortunately, the site is gone), please send it to me and i can try to put it up somewhere.

Takatis
Despite the weird sounding name, this is a very good side-scrolling shooter game. You play as a spaceship that just cannot stop moving right (yep, one of those) and you just blast everything out of your way. There are 3 permanant and infinite weapons, and limited weapons like the wave and missles. It has many levels for you to play and obstacles for you to overcome. Overall quite a nice game. Did i mention it's free?

Dark War II
Right, this is a platformer where you play as a .... a.... monster killer? Essentially, you buy guns, and enter a mission. Guns in the mission will have clip sizes and spare ammo, Once you run out, you use another gun, or your relatively useless chainsword to hack and slash enemies. It's a really good platformer with many weapons, like flamer, laser, Auto-Shotgun, etc. It even has a survival mode! Try it, and blast some skeletons and gremlins into smithereens!

Note: Dark War is also a nice game, but with not so good graphics and different weapons.

Notrium
This is one of the most amazing RPG games out there, Essentially, you are a Robot, or a alien, or a psion, or a human, and you crash land on a strange island. Each of these races have different needs and abilities, such as weight limits, ability to lay eggs, only eat electricity, etc. You can combine stuff to create new items, such as weapons and ammo. Finally, you win by any one of possible scenarios, Escape pod, long range radio, and others (hopefully those weren't Spoilers).
It's a nice freeware game.

Gunner 3
Ok, now some of you may think after downloading it, this is just another platformer. If you didn't notice before, i like platformers. I really don't know why. Anyway, this is a normal platformer with a small number of levels and a lot of weapons. It's not that bad, but it isn't a favourite. I've seen worse. It's still pretty fun though.

Die Slave
Weird name right? But I don't Care so much for games as i do content. This is a sidescrolling shooter game (yes, another spaceship) Where you are destroying enemies, for seemingly not particular reason, with awesome weapons. The graphical effects are just Spectacular! While i still don't get the story to this day, who needs a story when your busy ripping enemy ships to shreds?

Eternal Daughter
In my opinion one of the best platform games that is offered for free. In the game, you play as mia, a girl with strange powers, and you play through the game to learn your origins while fighting monsters, bosses, and obtaining new relics to give you new powers. While i still haven't beaten the final boss, the game is very expansive and has a good story line as well. There are even good hidden secrets such as an animated "conversation" between two creators of the game. There is also a hidden zoo for those who can find it.

Beats of rage
Ok, now for those who have played a game called streets of rage, this should be nostalgic. Me, not so much. Still, it's a good sidescrolling beat em up game. Standard, you can punch, kick, jump, and special move, but that's about it. It has also been heavily modified by different people to the point of creating new 'games' like Asterix and Obelix, TMNT, Double dragon, and other stuff. Just check for beats of rage mods.

Silver Knights
Right, now this is cool game with great graphics. You play as a number of different robots, each with different Primary and Secondary guns. They can fly using a Jet boost, shoot, and they have a really awesome looking melee sword attacks. They don't have story mode yet though, although you can still play through VS.

Stick Soldiers
This is a game where you are a stick soldier and you must kill enemies to gain the title Fragmeister. In the sequel, which has better ai, and modifiable kill limit, you can design your own maps and use bullettime. It's a good game to pass time, but that's about it.

Soldat
Ok, now this game is 'Shareware' But the only difference between it and the full version is the startup screen, Demo recording time(recording, not playing) and your Jets flames colour. No real Functionality is lost. This game is a very good 2D version of Counter-strike/Team Fortress, if you've played those games. There is CTF mode, Battle mode, Team mode, Rambo mode, and other stuff. There's no Story mode, but the Bots will be enough to play with. It's that nice. Really.

Soldat
This game is a very good 2D version of Counter-strike/Team Fortress, if you've played those games. There is CTF mode, Battle mode, Team mode, Rambo mode, and other stuff. There's no Story mode, but the Bots will be enough to play with. It's that nice. Really.

Gearbolt Rage: Infinite Rage and Destruction Carnival
These two games have a very small size and are easily downloaded onto your computer. They are both action games that are based on survival. They are also the type of games you can start and end on a moment's notice, or even to pass time.

Blip and Blop: Balls of steel
This came out waaaaaay before that stupid ping pong show, so no copyright Disputes or anything. It's a humorous metal slug style parody that makes fun of everything, Pokemon, Care bears, Mario... etc. It's quite fun to play and can be two players as well. Very enjoyable. The inflated gas bag's dialogue is also very fun to read, and makes an excellent stress relief.

Commando and Streambolt
These two games are from the unfortunately now defunct website, fallen angel industries. They are excellent examples of good side scrolling games, one with more realistic weapons, and one that reminds me of Megaman. (you know, the small guy with a gun on his hand.

Factor X
A game Similar to Gearbolt rage and Destruction carnival, but with an actual storyline. Not the best, but it is more killing of enemies, with interesting weapons. Part of this games inventiveness lies in the sub-games which have been created. You can play them under the extras, and while they don't have levels or custom models, they are still fun to play.

Arkoss
WARNING! This game does not have the best graphics and is quite old... about 6+ years, but it is still a good game to play. Now, this is a freeware version like Diablo type games, but is no Diablo. First, there is no background music, and apparently some people find the stepping sounds annoying. You move pretty slowly, so i guess the steps are irritating, although you can disable those sounds. There are 6 different classes to start with, each with a maximum proficiency in each of 4 weapon classes, so you can start with whatever suits you best.Things you should not expect out of this game would be Diablo Level game. IT's Free people. You cannot expect too much out of it. Still, once you get used to the controls and all, it's quite fun. The controls need some getting used to, so you might get frustrated at first, but it is still a really nice game. Quite a good storyline as well.

Wazzal (Formally known as Stars-Supernova)
Now this is one really unique game. The story goes, that the universe has become very advanced and so all the worlds are occupied, and so on. Basically, it is a furturistic type hybrid game. You fly around on fuel, which if it runs out, will leave you drifting in space. You can run into other ships or pirates, and you can make deals with them, loot them, fight them.... After a battle, you would get slaves as cargo :O, money and maybe a ship. If you are not playing on Easy mode, you have to fight for the ship, an added aspect to the game. The Main Quest is not very long, so it won't keep you occupied for too long. But believe me, it's worth investing your time and lack of money, into.

Battle of Yavin/Battle of Endor
Ok, as you've heard, I'm a Self-proclaimed Star wars fan. So Obviously I'm Thrilled at the idea of a free star wars game. Anyway, you play as an X-Wing Fighter, and you fly around shooting down TIE fighters. As the game progresses, you can get a chance to take on star destroyers and Super Star Destroyers and even help demolish THE DEATH STAR!!! (Ominous music plays in the background) Still, there are threats for a puny Xwing like you. You can get hit by an inaccurate TIE fighter, Shot by turrets stuck onto the Death Star or Star destroyers (you can shoot back) and other stuff. I find both of them a fun game to play.

Crayon Caper Rescue by Digipen
This is another innovative game by Digipen instituition of technology. You play as a cute little crayon with paper aeroplane , enemy crayon and sticky tape enemies. You use your Arrow keys to move and your mouse to draw platforms! Innovative or what! It was really fun... while it lasted. There are no real bosses for you to fight and there are very few levels. Still, it is an example of the quality of game Digipen Produces.

Atmosphere
This is another innovative game by Digipen instituition of technology. This racing game is hard to find off google , so you will have to go to the source. Essentially, you play as a ball of 3 Elements. The elements you add in will determine the ball's name, and it's properties: Buoyancy, Luminous, and Magnetic. Each of these characteristics will give you advantages over your opponents: Buoyant balls can float on air jets( shorter path), Luminous balls can navigate ball hole zones, and magnetic balls can Stick to generally long, but extremely safe Metal tracks. There are also In-game powerups to use on your enemies: boost, Sheild and Shoot. Unlike most games from Digipen, this one has Great replayability and is worth keeping on your computer for a long time. (Bug: Sometimes you can't move when the race starts, but most of the time the game is fine. If it happens you may have to reinstall the game)

Temporal Power Racing
This game by Digipen has good ai and good replayability, although Atmosphere still beats it hands down. Anyway, you play as a Space racer (out of 6) and you can change polarity to match the track, speeding you up, or if you're the wrong color, slow you down. You can pick up guns and boosts on your races and there are 5 maps to choose from. Quite a good game.

Jetz 4 Rampage: Revenge
Now This game is incredibly hard to describe. It's like a 2D grand theft auto with a jetpack. You can fly around 2 cities, cause havok and destruction, or you can act as normal as possible (for a sinister looking fellow). I give it 5 Stars. Definitely worth the download. It is a little Gorey though, so i have to warn you. Pity about the author of the game too.

Icy tower
For it's tiny file size, you wouldn't expect it to be so addictive. Essentially, you are a guy trying to get to the top of a randomly generated tower by jumping up and up and up. You cannot fall down or miss a platform, or you'll die. On the other hand, if you keep jumping without stopping, you will get combos which give you extra points. Good game, Please download it!

That's all for now, thanks for Reading!
If you have difficulty finding the game, use google and try " game download"
